Horsman

In 1865, Edward Imerson Horsman founded the E. I. Horsman & Co, which became the Horsman Co. we know today. When Edward was 16 years old, he was an office boy, working for $2.00 a week. Who would believe that six years later he would start a company that would become a leader in the doll industry? During the early 1900’s, he produced several popular composition dolls. Through a series of acquisitions, Horsman acquired a formula for unbreakable composition doll heads from a Russian inventor. This led to huge success for the Horsman Doll Co.

Ruthie
Horsman - late 1950's

We haven't been able to find this exact doll, but we were told it was a Ruthie.  She is about 16 inches tall and is in very good condition.  She has rooted hair that is a little on the dry side but seems to all be there.  She has blue open close eyes and a precious face.  Ruthie is wearing a vintage dress, but I can't say for sure if it is original to her.  The elastic has relaxed with time in the sleeves on the dress.

Price $14.99

Peggy Petite
Horsman - 1957 - 1958

Peggy had a solid body with a separate head.  She was 13 to 14 inches high, but in 1957 she became even smaller. Horsman then only produced the 8 inch Peggie Petite.  When Peggie was downsized her head was redesigned so that she didn't so much resemble Ruthie.  This little beauty has blonde hair and green eyes, though one is darker than the other.  She is wearing her original slightly faded dress with replaced panties and shoes.  Peggy is in wonderful condition.

Ruthie
Horsman - 1968

Ruthie is an 11 inch cutie with painted brown flirty eyes. She is in excellent condition and is wearing a little four piece outfit that looks to be original. Her little skirt can be removed to reveal shorts underneath, and she has a cute little hat to keep the sun out of her eyes. On the back of her neck, she is marked with the number 5, then “Horsman Dolls, Inc.190G7.” On her back is written “Horsman Dolls Inc. T 11″. Her body is hard plastic, and her head is vinyl.
